Assessments
Bend North Baseball uses assessments for the AA Division and older to evaluate players current skill level. Please assure your children there is no "failing" in the assessments. Each child will be placed on a team regardless of skill level. Our primary objective is to create competitively balanced teams. The league uses an online application, Team Genius, to collect an aggregate score for each player. All of the coaches for the division the child will play in rate skills such as catching, throwing, hitting at the assessment. Coaches are then able to see the aggregated scores on those skills at the divisions draft. This really does help us spread out the pitching, hitting and other skills among all of the teams in the division.
To get ready for the assessment, we certainly encourage you to play catch with your child in the days leading up to it. On the day of the assessment, it is probably a good idea to throw the ball with them to get their arms loose prior to coming. At the assessment, we will have bats and helmets available for players to use during their assessment. Players should bring their own baseball glove. The assessment will involve five basic skills: throwing, catching, fielding, running, and hitting.

Once the assessment process is complete, the next step in preparing for the upcoming season is the player draft. The draft is an essential part of every local league, and when done correctly, provides a proper disbursement of talent to ensure as fair a playing field as possible, so that each player can have as much fun as possible.
Bend North Baseball is affiliated with Little League International which requires a draft system to assign players to teams. The purpose of the draft is use the assessment information to allow our coaches to assemble teams that are evenly balanced, as this is the best method to create an evenly-matched competitive environment during the regular season that will create the most learning opportunities, development, and fun for our players.
