Assessments

Bend North Softball uses assessments for ages 9 and older to evaluate the best level of play for your daughter so they are playing with others with similar abilities and similar age. This will help aid in their development and most importantly that they will be safe. Please assure your daughter there is no "failing" in the assessments.

To get ready for the assessment, we certainly encourage you to play catch with them in the days leading up to it. On the day of the assessment, it is probably a good idea to throw the ball with them to get their arms loose prior to coming. At the assessment, we will have bats and helmets available for players to use during their tryout. Players should bring their own softball glove. The assessment will involve five basic skills: throwing, catching, fielding, running, and hitting.

League Draft

Once the assessment process is complete, the next step in preparing for the upcoming season is the player draft. The draft is an essential part of every local league, and when done correctly, provides a proper disbursement of talent to ensure as fair a playing field as possible, so that each player can have as much fun as possible.

Bend North Softball is affiliated with Little League International which requires a draft system to assign players to teams. The purpose of the draft is use to the assessment information to allow our coaches to assemble teams that are evenly balanced, as this is the best method to create an evenly-matched competitive environment during the regular season that will create the most learning opportunities, development, and fun for our players.
