Summer Sandlot League
Summer Sandlot is a summer program supported by Little League International. This is not a competitive league. Kids that are playing in All-Stars already have an extended season. It is set up for kids to use the skills they have learned during the regular season and have fun playing baseball without coaches’ involvement. Just like a true summer sandlot where kids meet at a local empty park and play ball. This program offers kids the ability to work through conflict resolution, problem solving and trying new positions all while enjoying the game of baseball. Coaches will be present on the fields to offer any needed instruction and for safety.
Who can play:
⦁
Minors teams will be composed of players that played 9s and 10s this year.
⦁
Majors teams will be composed of players that played Majors this year.
⦁
Juniors teams will be composed of players that played Juniors this year.
(This year, we will offer the option for 12s to play up to Juniors, 10s play up to Majors and 8s play up to Minors, depending on space availability. We will start with Juniors and offer spots by division until all teams are filled through the Minors.)
How many can play:
⦁
15 players on each team. First 60 to sign up for each division is in.
⦁
Each player will receive a Bend North Sandlot jersey and Bend North hat.
⦁
Don’t worry if you are going to miss games during the summer. That’s why we are putting 15 players on a team.
When do we play:
⦁
Games will be played on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays starting on 6/25 and ending on 8/3.
⦁
Each team will play 12 games. 1 game during the week (5:30-7:30pm) and 1 on Saturday (9-11am)
⦁
Remember this is a sandlot format. There are no practices and very little instruction.
⦁
Idea is to just let the kids play ball, be safe and HAVE FUN! (See game format for more details.)
Format of Games:
⦁
Once schedule is released, team coach reaches out to all additional coaches to make sure there will be a coach at every game. All coaches must have cleared league background check.
⦁
Coach fills out a batting order as kids show for the game.
⦁
Kids pick their field position before each inning. Outfielders pick next inning first.
⦁
Kids can only pitch one inning per game. No pitch count needed.
⦁
The batting team coach stands behind the pitcher and calls balls/strikes.
⦁
No walks in Minors. We want the game to be fun for batters and fielders. After 4 balls, batting team coach steps in and pitches the rest of the count until player hits or strikes out.
⦁
5 runs max per inning.
⦁
6 innings total.
⦁
Kids rotate 1st base and 3rd base coach and umpire the game.
Parents should have fun too!
⦁
Bring doughnuts or treats for the team.
⦁
Play music pre-game and between innings.
⦁
Socialize with your Bend neighbors about your summer plans.
